Stellographer °0 : Exploring a Toy

This lil game has been in the making for the past few weeks and it already grew and changed so much! So I decided to document this wonderful process c:

It started with a few dots on a piece of paper that was laying on my table, then I thought to connect them, then remembered all the pretty constellation art that’s out there.. It always fascinated and puzzled me at the same time.. Fascinated how humans took a few dots in the sky and gave them a meaning and then illustrated them so beautifully. Puzzled how someone came up with an absolutely unhinged chain of stars and named it a shape, and everyone else went “Yeah, for sure, this makes sense”?

How interesting would it be to discover constellations in a visual way and also come up with your own! Map the sky to your liking~

I first came up with a mechanic of simply connecting stars; added some color and pretty tiny background stars. After that I thought it was missing some fazzaz and added glow, sparkles~

And the most fun part: a constellation-art stamp. I'm kinda obsessed with this one, because the possibilities of combining only a few stars are endless!

Currently I’m experimenting with revealing the constellation-art as you connect the stars in cohesive shapes.

This is it for now! Stay tuned for more updates in the following weeks: I’m planning on making this an actual game, instead of just a toy. My focus will be on coming up with an interesting mechanic as well as implementing some common real-world constellations c:
