Stellographer °1 : Discovering Playdate

It's been a while :)

Stellographer was on pause, since life got in the way and the whole Unity thing demotivated me quite a bit, but then I discovered this loveliness:

* On Playdate

Playdate is the love of my life now. This tiny console reignited my love for games and game dev. It has experimental games, it has match-3 that's fun, it has games that piss me off, but I cannot stop playing them.

As a developer I'm most excited about Playdate's SDK. It brings back memories of developing purely with C, meaning no game engines, spawning images, refreshing screens manually, there's a special warm and fuzzy feeling this brings me.  And Lua is phenomenal! It's my first time seriously exploring a language where a variable can be.. Anything?? And I was especially shocked when I found out you don't need 200 lines to get a JSON into usable game data~

Last but not least, the crank is very fun to come up with mechanics for, which brings me tooo

For me Stellographer is about exploring interesting mechanics and combining them with an aesthetic experience, which, when I switched to Playdate from Unity meant completely rethinking the core of the game: I have a cool crank and an e-reader screen to work with now, which is exciting~

I'm currently wrapping up the experimentation phase and will be making a few levels (and a level selection menu) to let my friends play with it and let me know what they think. Here's a little peak:
